Three misunderstandings to shorten the life of apcups


The importance of data center power supply system is clear to the industry. Data center power supply system is very important from the early design and planning, to the selection and installation, to the operation process of equipment maintenance, but users in the face of data center power supply system, there are always many misunderstandings, often caused by these small errors huge losses.

Myth 1: high frequency UPS power supply is a new technology product, and there is no high-power product


In the previous impression, UPS belongs to low availability, low reliability and "high energy and low efficiency". However, the selection of UPS is just a period of alternation between the old and the new. In the past, UPS consumed a lot of energy in several aspects of work, and also had a great impact on the reliability of ups. However, the high-frequency UPS can solve such problems, and its efficiency can reach 95% in the case of load.


The so-called high-frequency UPS refers to the ups whose input and output circuits are all working above 20kHz, and there is no output transformer circuit. Compared with the 90% operation efficiency of traditional power frequency UPS, the advantages of high frequency ups are obvious. High frequency UPS not only has the technical index of power frequency UPS, but also has higher performance and index, which is also inferior to power frequency ups. So in the selection of UPS, high frequency ups will be the future development trend.


Mistake 2: UPS power supply can protect against lightning


In the data center, the power supply system belongs to alternating current, which can be divided into two situations after coming in from the grid. If it is very important, the data center must be equipped with generators. The first problem to be solved when entering the data center from alternating current is lightning protection. After the AC power comes in, the three-level lightning protection must be completed before the power distribution cabinet before entering the ups. The first level of lightning protection should reduce the lightning surge voltage above 7000 V to below 4000 V, the second level of lightning protection to below 2500 V, the third level of lightning protection to below 1500 V, and then through the ups input circuit filter to 1000 V, then the ups itself can be used.


When purchasing apcups power supply, some users will ask "how many levels of lightning protection can this UPS achieve". This shows that there is still a misunderstanding among users that UPS has lightning protection function. In fact, the surge current of three-level lightning protection can reach 8000 amperes, which can not be borne by any type of ups. The third level lightning protection must be completed on the input distribution cabinet at the front end of ups.


Mistake 3: maintenance free battery of apcups power supply does not need "maintenance"


In the power supply system of data center, the battery has the shortest life, but it is the equipment with the most failures. Many users think that maintenance free battery is maintenance free, which is a big mistake. The full name of the maintenance free battery is lead-acid valve controlled maintenance free battery. "Maintenance free" refers to that the specific gravity of the battery does not need to be measured and the battery water does not need to be added, rather than maintenance.
